The Air Yeezy appears on the Grammy stage
Sotheby's identifies the Nike Air Yeezy prototype as the pair West wore during his performance at the 50th Grammy Awards in 2008. Its offering record describes this as the design's public introduction, before retail release.
Sotheby's catalogue dates the Air Yeezy's general release to April 2009. Its sample listing distinguishes the earlier factory prototype from the shoes subsequently sold to the public.
The later US registration certificate records 6 August 2013 as the filing date for the YEEZY application covering footwear, shoes and sneakers. Filing an application is distinct from obtaining registration.
Adidas's own retrospective dates Yeezy Season 1 to February 2015 and names the Boost 750 as the first product from its collaboration with West. The dedicated Adidas chronology follows this partnership in detail.
The Adidas partnership expands beyond the first shoes
Adidas announced plans for Yeezy footwear, apparel and accessories across sport and streetwear, with a dedicated team and proposed retail stores. These were announced plans, not proof that every proposed store opened.
The USPTO certificate records YEEZY registration number 5125895 in Mascotte Holdings' name for footwear, shoes and sneakers. This is the historical registration record, not a claim about every Yeezy design or present-day ownership.
The shorter YZY mark gains a separate registration
A second USPTO certificate records YZY registration number 5227726 in Mascotte Holdings' name for footwear. The two certificates distinguish the brand names from individual shoe designs.
Mascotte describes direct sales and licensed retail channels
In a declaration filed with the USPTO, Mascotte's business development head and general counsel said the company owned yeezysupply.com and sold Yeezy products through that site. He also described sales through licensees, other retail websites and physical stores, showing that direct retail already existed alongside partnerships.
Gap announced a Yeezy apparel line with royalties and potential equity tied to sales. The announcement said West retained ownership of the Yeezy brand, distinguishing the partnership from a sale of the brand to Gap.
Sotheby's offers the Grammy prototype for private sale
Sotheby's announced that it was offering the 2008 Grammy-worn Air Yeezy prototype through a private sale. This was a collector-market offering of an existing object, not a new Yeezy product launch or evidence of revenue received by West.
Napa prosecutors announced a consumer protection settlement involving Yeezy Apparel LLC and Yeezy LLC over alleged shipping delays and missing notices or refunds. They reported USD 900,000 in penalties and investigative costs plus USD 50,000 in indirect restitution, restrictions on misleading shipping claims, and cooperation by the companies throughout the investigation.
A later federal opinion recounts West's 6 October statement accusing Adidas of taking his designs, as set out in the investor complaint. The court expressly said it was not making definitive factual findings about those allegations.
Adidas ends its partnership and asserts design rights
Adidas ended the partnership, citing West's comments and actions, and said it would stop production and payments. It also asserted ownership of the partnership's product design rights. That assertion concerns designs and should not be treated as a transfer of the YEEZY name itself.
Gap announces product withdrawal and closure of the joint website
Gap said the partnership had ended in September and announced immediate removal of Yeezy Gap products from stores and closure of YeezyGap.com. The dedicated Gap chronology covers the parties' positions and the collaboration's wind-down.
A 12 February archive capture of Yeezy's own store lists YZY Pods at USD 20, alongside shirts and other apparel at the same listed price. The capture documents offers visible on that date, not their first launch date, completed sales or successful delivery.
Adidas's annual report records a July 2024 settlement of arbitration claims and counterclaims involving West and his entities. Both sides withdrew their claims. The disclosure does not establish a new personal wealth figure or describe a renewed partnership.
In a statement provided directly to Modern Retail, Shopify said it removed the merchant for violating its terms and failing to conduct authentic commerce. This records Shopify's explanation for its platform decision, not a court finding of fraud or a dissolution of Yeezy.
Yeezy's published terms identify its own retail operator
The Yeezy website's terms, dated 4 March 2026, identify Yeezy LLC as the operator of yeezy.com and describe an online service selling Yeezy products. The terms are evidence of the site's stated operator, not proof of incorporation date, sales volume or order fulfilment.
